Issue/Introduction

  • The NSX Cluster status on NSX Global Manager node under System > Appliances > Cluster appears as DEGRADED due to the MONITORING Service being in a DOWN state.

  • When navigating to System > Appliances and selecting View Details for the NSX Manager nodes, the MONITORING service is reported in a DOWN state. This status can be further confirmed via the NSX Manager admin CLI by executing the 'get cluster status' command.

Environment

VMware NSX

Resolution

Restart the 'phonehome-coordinator' service on the affected NSX Global Manager node by login as 'root' user.

Switch to engineering mode (root) by entering: > st en

root@nsxmgr:~# /etc/init.d/phonehome-coordinator restart

Validate the status of the service using the below command. In an ideal working state, the status should show as 'active (running)'.

root@nsxmgr:~# /etc/init.d/phonehome-coordinator status

If the above steps in this KB do not resolve the issue or further assistance is required, raise a support ticket with Broadcom support selecting NSX as the product using Creating and managing Broadcom support cases

Additional Information

Impact : The NSX upgrade process cannot be initiated or continued until the Management Cluster status returns to a Stable state.
