Issue/Introduction

  • You would like to understand if it is possible to change the password expiration policy for non-admin local users so that they never expire.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations

Resolution

  • It's not possible to change the password expiration policy for non-admin local users never to expire

  • The /etc/shadow or /etc/passwd file does not store Local user information. So the commands like chage, passwd, etc will not work.

  • When you create user accounts in a local VMware Aria Operations instance, VMware Aria Operations stores the credentials for those accounts in its global database. We don't suggest editing anything in this global DB, as it might disrupt operations.

  • From the UI, the maximum number we can reach is 730 days. Post this, you will have to rotate the password.

  • By changing the setting from the UI, this will be implemented for all the accounts, admin & non-admin accounts.
