Issue/Introduction

Observed CPU utilization for postgres Database created via DSM using default 'small' VM class with out any connections appear high at idle.

Environment

VMware Data Services Manager (DSM) (All versions)

Resolution

The observed CPU consumption is expected. Certain system processes—such as health probes, metrics collection, and cluster management for High Availability (HA)—run continuously in the background to ensure the Postgres service remains operational. These routines consume CPU cycles regardless of the current utilization of the Postgres service itself.
