Issue/Introduction

The number of ABENDs is not displayed in the Count field of the CICS_TRAN_Abends field on the RULES screen.

(The number of ABENDs can be viewed on the CDUMPS screen.)

What is the reason the number of ABENDs is not displayed in the Count field of the CICS_TRAN_Abends field on either the CTHRESH or RULES screen?

Resolution

The Count field in RULES indicates the number of times a threshold rule triggered at the PROBLEM level. It is not a METRIC value.

Example:
The threshold rule for CICS_SYS_TranDumps has a Limit of 1 and a Duration of 1.
Assume data collection/threshold processing for these DUMP Metrics occurs every minute.

If two transaction dumps are recorded in CDUMPS, and both occur within the same minute:
At the end of that minute, the value of CICS_SYS_TranDumps is 2.
The threshold processing compares this value of 2 against the rule's limit of 1 and determines the rule is triggered.
The Count field in RULES increases by 1.

However, if the first transaction dump is acquired in the first minute and the second transaction dump is acquired in the second minute:
At the end of the first minute, the value of CICS_SYS_TranDumps is 1, triggering the rule and incrementing Count by 1.
Since the CICS_SYS_TranDumps value at the end of the second minute is 1, the rule triggers again, incrementing Count by 1 (thus Count displays 2).
