Issue/Introduction

  • Trying to  remove the edge(s) from the Edge cluster throws below error.
Edge cluster should have transport nodes from at least two failure domains, if failure domain based allocation enabled. (Error code: 15021)

  • This specific error was identified as matching a known issue documented in knowledge base article  412645

  • Following the recommended resolution steps - which involved manually removing the allocation rule section from the response payload and then updating the object - a subsequent, different error was encountered.
The policy object path=[/infra/sites/default/enforcement-points/default/edge-clusters/XXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX], used in this operation, has a different version (8) than the current system version (9). Fetch the latest copy of the object and retry operation. (Error code: 500071)

  • Upon closer investigation of the edge transport node intended for removal, it was discovered that critical network services - including T1 gateways and Routed Tunnel Endpoint (RTEP) configurations were still actively associated with it, which likely contributes to the ongoing removal difficulties.

Environment

NSX 4.x

Cause

The Edge transport node appears to retain residual or undeleted configurations, specifically involving services such as T1 Gateway logical routers and Routed Tunnel Endpoints (RTEPs).

Resolution

Follow the below article's instructions to automatically relocate all eligible service configurations, subsequently removing the Edge node from the cluster upon completion of the transfer.
Relocate and Remove an NSX Edge Node from an NSX Edge Cluster in NSX-T 4.0.1.1 and later versions.
