VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service

Issue/Introduction

  • Supervisor was originally assigned with storage policy which has Conserve space when possible in Volume allocation type.
  • Supervisor Services or vSphere Pods deploy failed to add FCD disk that requires to change the Volume allocation type to Fully initialized in storage policy from "failed to add disk" error while deploying Supervisor Services or vSphere Pods
  • After the change Supervisor virtual machines show 'Out of Date' in VM Storage Policy Compliance

Environment

VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service

Resolution

To resolve the issue, reapply the updated strange policy to Supervisor virtual machines manually:

  1. Create a temp user to bypass the permission limitation of Supervisor in Bypassing vSphere with Tanzu managed virtual machine permissions for troubleshooting purposes
  2. Login vCenter Server with the temp user account.
  3. Select one Supervisor virtual machine and go to Configure > Policies
  4. Click REAPPLY VM STORAGE POLICY.
  5. After the task completed check if Supervisor cluster is healthy. See Troubleshooting vSphere Supervisor Control Plane VMs
  6. Do the same steps for the other Supervisor virtual machines.
