Issue/Introduction

During VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) deployment or workload domain expansion, the NSX installation task may become stuck in the Configuring state.

The SDDC Manager user interface may display the following error:

“This feature is not supported with the current applied license. Please upgrade your license in order to use this feature.”

In some scenarios, this error may continue to be displayed even when valid NSX licenses are already applied and sufficient core entitlements are available. As a result, the deployment workflow may fail to progress and remain stalled.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
  • NSX Manager (3.x / 4.x)

Cause

The exact root cause may vary by environment.

Resolution

Perform a controlled rolling restart of the NSX Manager cluster.

Steps:

  1. Log in to the NSX Manager cluster VIP or any NSX Manager node.
  2. Perform a controlled rolling restart of the NSX Manager cluster using the NSX Manager UI or CLI.
  3. Allow each NSX Manager node to fully reboot and return to a healthy state before proceeding to the next node.
  4. After all NSX Manager nodes have restarted, verify NSX Manager cluster health.
  5. Return to SDDC Manager and validate that the NSX installation task resumes or completes successfully.

Additional Information

  • Management plane access may be briefly interrupted during the restart process.
  • Data plane traffic is not impacted.
  • The displayed license error is typically a secondary symptom and does not indicate an actual entitlement issue when valid NSX licenses are already applied.
  • If the issue persists after the rolling restart, collect NSX Manager diagnostics and contact Broadcom Support
