Issue/Introduction

  •  Gitlab is not able to handle files above 5MiB via a normal git commit. They fail with error similar to below:

REJECTED_OTHER_REASON Reason: pre-receive hook declinedDetails: GitLab: You are attempting to check in one or more blobs which exceed the 5MiB limit: -  <ID>(5.36 MiB) - <ID> (5.36 MiB) - <ID> (5.31 MiB) -  (12.9 MiB) To resolve this error, you must either reduce the size of the above....

  • Git LFS supports files larger than  5MiB however it is not supported to install additional package on Aria Suite appliances

Environment

VCF Automation Orchestrator 8.x

Cause

As outlined in article VMware Virtual Appliances and customizations to operating system and included packages it is not supported to modify or customize the underlying operating system and packages included in a VMware-branded virtual appliance.

Resolution

Alternative solutions for this use-case include but are not limited to:

  • Sync these files manually or by another means, since they are largely static & unchanged
  • Create an "Environment" in Orchestrator with the modules in it
  • Host a Nexus or Artifactory server on premises to provide such modules
