Issue/Introduction

I would like to know why some hosts in USM display the fully qualified domain name and some do not?

Environment

Release: UIM 8.x, 9.x, 20.x
Component: rsp

Resolution

Usually this is when no snmp, ssh or wmi credentials are used to connect to the device or the device is only being monitored by something such as the net_connect probe. We would need additional information, this can be done in the following ways:

  1.     Use the discovery wizard in USM to discover the systems/devices with credentials to connect via WMI, SSH or SNMP.
  2.     Install a robot on the device or use the RSP probe to connect to the system and make sure the discovery_server can read the niscache of the robot.

If no advanced information can be determined about a system, it will stay a device.
