When attempting to restore a backup getting error invalid page in block 0

Issue/Introduction

Restore of vCenter backup fails with "ERROR: invalid page in block 0 of relationpg_tblspc/16403/PG_14_202107181/16408/20404".

Environment

vCenter 8.x

Cause

The error ERROR: invalid page in block 0 of relation indicates that the header of a database table (OID 20404) is damaged.

This usually happens if the source machine had disk corruption when the backup was taken, or if the backup file was corrupted during transfer. 

Because "Block 0" is corrupted, the database engine cannot initialize, causing the vpxd services to fail on the restored host.

Resolution

Restore from another backup that is known to be good, or re-deploy
