eventlog is obsoleted by (installed) syslog-ng-4.3.1-8.ph4.x86_64

Environment

vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

Patch installation of eventlog x86_64 0.2.12-4.ph4 RPM conflicts with installed syslog-ng-4.3.1-8.ph4.x86_64 RPM

Resolution

Note, Backup and Snapshot vCenter before making any changes.

  1. Identify the conflicting RPM in the /var/log/vmware/applmgmt/update_microservice.log.

    i.e.,

eventlog is obsoleted by (installed) syslog-ng-4.3.1-8.ph4.x86_64

  2. Uninstall the conflicting RPM.

    vcsa# rpm -e syslog-ng-4.3.1-8.ph4.x86_64

  3. Confirm that the conflicting RPM is removed

vcsa# rpm -qa | grep syslog

  4. Continue with patching vCenter.
