Issue/Introduction

  • A custom role is created by cloning one of the default role with limited rights (i.e. vApp Author, Console access only, vApp User).
  • The rights "Administrator view" and "Access to VM console" have been enabled on the custom role.
  • Both the options "Launch Remote Console" and "Launch web Console" are grayed out for all the existing VMs.
  • The options "Launch Remote Console" and "Launch web Console" are available for the VMs newly created by the user with the custom role.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

The custom role was missing "Administrator control" rights.

The "Administrator control" right allows users to manage any objects owned by other users inside an Organization VDC.

Resolution

Add the "Administrator control" right to the custom role. For additional information visit the documentation at Edit a Custom Tenant Role

Additional Information

To compare rights in the custom role to a default role available, refer Rights Included in the Global Tenant Roles in VMware Cloud Director
