Issue/Introduction

Users are experiencing slow and intermittent loading times in the Datastore's Files panel.

  • The files list may take a prolonged period to populate or show a continuous loading state.
  • This behavior is consistent across different web browsers.
  • The loading process can eventually fail, displaying an "Operation Failed" error with the message: "An error occurred while communicating with the remote host."

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0
VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

vCenter relies on a selected host or hosts to display shared datastores. A storage issue on this host can prevent vCenter from loading the files within the connected datastores.

Resolution

Identify the host used by vCenter to view the datastores by following the steps in this Broadcom article: Determining the host when browsing a datastore by vCenter Server.

When the host is identified, examine the vmkernel and vobd logs. Look for indicators of storage connectivity problems, such as All Paths Down (APD) events or heartbeat failures.

For further guidance on resolving storage-related issues, refer to the Broadcom article Troubleshooting storage issues when using VMware products
