Do not show results until I filter Portlet option

Issue/Introduction

Introduction: 

Portlets have a configuration option under the "List Column Section": "Do not show results until I filter".  However after filtering for results they continue to be visible even after navigating to other pages.

Question: 

Why do portlets continue displaying results after navigating to other pages and returning to the portlet even though the "do not show results until I filter" option was selected?

Environment:  

All CA PPM versions

Answer: 

Once the filter button is selected in a portlet that has this setting, the new filter is cached/saved until that CA PPM session times out or the user selects the Logout option
