Question:
User recently started getting a screen pop up during explain processing in plan analyzer:
PPA CA-Defined Explain Profile Selection and a message :
PP545I: You did not specify an optional Explain Profile.
Is there an install job that should have defined this ? Is there any documentation on what it is for ?
Answer:
In CA Plan Analyzer for DB2 for Z/OS (PPA), a new CA-Defined Explain Profile Selection interface panel is now accessible in both Quick Explain and Explain Strategy from the profile field. When the profile field is blank, the new panel will be displayed allowing a user to select a CA-Defined Explain Profile based on a specific task. The available tasks are "Perform an explain" or "Perform an access path comparison". This new feature can be suppressed at any time by specifying Y(yes) in the suppress panel option of either the new CA-Defined Explain Selection panel or the PPA profile panel accessible by issuing PROF at the command line.
Suppress Expl Prof Select panel ===> N (Y=Suppress, N=Do not suppress)
This feature was introduced in R18 and is documented in the R18 User Guide page 45 under the subheading of CA Defined Explain Profiles.
