Identify if the VLAN is allowed for vmknic on ESXi

Issue/Introduction

Network does not go through after switch change/migration.

Environment

Identify the back end uplink NIC for the specific vmknic

esxtop --- n

In this case, vmk1 <--> vmnic1

Cause

portgroup of vds configured with specific vlan but not able to communicate, like ping....

 

Resolution

Enable Physical NIC VLAN Statistics:

• esxcli network nic vlan stats set -e true -n vmnic1
• esxcli network nic vlan stats get -n vmnic1

For the VLAN on Packets Received is steady a 0，this indicated the physical switch does not allow that VLAN on the port.

Additional Information

Do remember to disable the Physical NIC VLAN Statistics after analyze.

• esxcli network nic vlan stats set -e false -n vmnic1
