Issue/Introduction

After rebuilding or reinstalling the OS of the external SFTP server used for SDDC Manager backups, the backup operation fails.

Environment

SDDC Manager 5.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the SSH host key of the external backup server has changed due to the rebuild or OS reinstallation.

Resolution

Run fixHostKeys.py script attached to KB 316028 to update the host key.

How to update the SSH host keys on the SDDC Manager
https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/316028

Here is an excerpt from the KB procedure:

  1. Take a snapshot of the SDDC Manager
  2. Download the fixHostkeys.py  script attached to the KB
  3. Transfer the script to the SDDC manager, or copy the contents to a file on the SDDC Manager.
    • Ideally, we should put the script in /home/vcf/.
  4. SSH to the SDDC Manager with the vcf user, and su root
  5. Execute the script

Enter the IP address or FQDN of the backup server specified in the SDDC Manager UI

    • Option 2: python fixHostKeys.py --node <FQDN of a specific node>

No service restart is required. After updating the host key, verify that the backup job runs successfully from the SDDC Manager UI.
