Can not increase ring rx and tx buffers for the device driver 'nenic'

Issue/Introduction

Attempt to increase rx and tx ring buffers for the network device driver  'nenic' resulted into following error message 

Unable to complete Sysinfo operation.  Please see the VMkernel log file for more details.: Not supported: VSI node (233:VSI_NODE_net_pNics_firmware_ringParams)

Following command was used to increase the buffers

esxcli network nic ring current set -n vmnic0 -r 1024 -t 1024

The command was run for the network adapter 'Cisco Systems Inc Cisco VIC Ethernet NIC' on UCS blade chassis 'UCSB-B200-M6'

Environment

vSphere ESX 

Cause

The above error was received as on UCS chassis ring buffers are adjusted at the hardware (UCS configuration) level.

 

Resolution

Access UCS configuration tool and perform the desired changes at UCS chassis level.
