Issue/Introduction

• App Control console gives error:

  The Carbon Black App Control console cannot connect to the database. Ensure that the database server is running.

• \Bit9\Parity Console\WebUI\Logs\php_errors.log shows the error:

  [<Date> <Time> UTC] DB Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server]SSL Provider: The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.

Environment

• App Control Server: 8.11.2 and below
• ODBC Driver 18 installed

Cause

• App Control Version 8.11.2 is not compatible with ODBC driver 18.
• ODBC Driver 18 installed (either manually, or via a different 3rd party application)

Resolution

1. Uninstall ODBC Driver 18
2. Confirm ODBC Driver 17 or 13 is installed
3. Open services.msc
4. Restart the App Control Server and App Control Reporter services
