Issue/Introduction

In Aria Automation 8.18.x, performing the MountISO Day 2 action on a deployed Virtual Machine may fail with one of the following errors:

  • Task 'reconfigure' error: Invalid configuration for device '0'.

  • Task 'reconfigure' error: The attempted operation cannot be performed in the current state (Powered on).

Environment

Aria Automation 8.x

Cause

  1. Datastore Accessibility: The error Invalid configuration for device '0' occurs if the ESXi host where the VM resides does not have access to the datastore containing the ISO.

  2. Workflow Limitation: The default "Mount CD-ROM" workflow in Aria Orchestrator typically targets the IDE controller, which does not support hot-plugging. Therefore, the task fails if the VM is in a "Powered On" state. Refer to vSphere Hotplug Support for more information.

Resolution

This is expected behavior for the default workflow provided in Aria Automation. To resolve the errors:

  1. For Inaccessible Datastore: Ensure the VM is residing on an ESXi host that has the ISO datastore mounted, or migrate the VM to a compatible host.

  2. For Power State Error: Power off the Virtual Machine before executing the MountISO Day 2 action.
