Issue/Introduction

sha_watchdog may unexpectedly stop/crash, resulting in core dump generation and an alarm similar to the following:

####-##-##T##:##:##.###Z EDGE NSX 2077005 - [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-edge" subcomp="node-mgmt" username="root" level="INFO"] Core dump generation received by process: None [sha_watchdog]
####-##-##T##:##:##.###Z EDGE NSX 2077005 - [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-edge" subcomp="node-mgmt" username="root" level="WARNING"] Core file generated: /var/log/core/core.sha_watchdog.sh.xx.gz

Environment

VMware NSX 4.1.0.x

Cause

Due to a Known Issue in NSX 4.1.0.x, core-dump gets generated for python based NSX services

Resolution

The issue has been fixed in 4.1.1.0 or above.

The impact of the problem can vary depending on what python based NSX service(in this case: sha_watchdog) is impacted, but they restart automatically, so the crashed service would be down for less than a minute.
