Service Mesh deletion failed. Interconnect Service Workflow InterconnectRemoveAppliance failed. Error: Remove appliance Failed. Unable to communicate with the remote host, since it is disconnected., Remove appliance Failed. Unable to communicate with the remote host, since it is disconnected., Remove appliance Failed. Unable to communicate with the remote host, since it is disconnected

Environment

VMware HCX

Cause

The error message stems from stale entries in the HCX database. This occurred because the Service Mesh appliances on the ESXi hosts were disconnected and powered off before the Service Mesh was properly decommissioned. Consequently, the HCX manager cannot reach the appliances to complete the standard removal process.

Resolution

Remove the disconnected hosts from the VC server inventory. To remove a disconnected ESXi host from vCenter via the vSphere Client:

  1. Navigate to Inventory: In the vSphere Client, go to Home > Hosts and Clusters.
  2. Select the Host: Locate and right-click the disconnected host in the inventory pane.
  3. Remove from Inventory: Choose Remove from Inventory (or Remove) from the context menu.
  4. Confirm: Click Yes in the confirmation dialog to permanently remove the host and its associated virtual machines from the vCenter inventory.

Attempt the removal of service mesh after removing the disconnected ESX hosts
