Issue/Introduction

On the new 9.x appliance, the precheck will show the error, "Unsupported NSX version registered with vCenter."

The /var/log/vmware/upgrade/prechecks.json will show

           "translatable": "NSX '%(0)s' version '%(1)s' is not supported with the new vCenter version.",
           "args": [
               "com.vmware.nsx.management.nsxt",
               "4.2.2.1"
           ],
           "localized": "NSX 'com.vmware.nsx.management.nsxt' version '4.2.2.1' is not supported with the new vCenter version."

Environment

NSX version 4.2.2.1

vCenter 9.x

Cause

This interoperability is exclusively supported for upgrade scenarios managed via SDDC Manager (SDDC-M).

This specific version combination is not supported for new (greenfield) deployments.

Resolution

NSX 4.x deployments that are not part of VCF instances can be upgraded to version 9.0.x after they are first imported to existing VCF instances as workload domains.
