VMware NSX

Issue/Introduction

  • You are unable to reach the edge node from any other VM/Edge on the same network confirming layer2 communication loss
  • Edge node is showing MPA connectivity down in NSX UI and tunnels from the edge are not establishing.

  • When verified from vSphere UI >> Edge node >> Edit settings >> Network adapter, it is observed that the vNIC for edge management network is not connected as shown in below screenshot.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

The network adapters (vNICs) used for Edge management must remain connected for the Edge node to maintain network connectivity. If the management vNIC is disconnected, the Edge node will lose network connectivity.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.

  2. Navigate to Menu → Hosts and Clusters.

  3. Locate and select the affected NSX Edge Node VM.

  4. Right-click the Edge VM and select Edit Settings.

  5. Expand the Network adapter associated with the Edge Management network.

  6. Verify the following:

    • Connected is checked

    • Connect At Power On is enabled

  7. If the adapter is disconnected, select Connected and click OK to apply the changes.

  8. Wait a few minutes and verify:

    • MPA connectivity shows UP in the NSX UI

    • Edge tunnels start establishing successfully

    • The Edge node is reachable via ping from other VMs/Edges on the same network
