Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Unable to expand the VM hard disk with below error on vCenter UI," Virtual Machine > Monitor > Tasks"

Reconfigure virtual machine ####

Navigates to Virtual machine The disk extend operation failed: 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable)

 

• Virtual objects on "vSAN cluster > Monitor > Virtual objects" reports VM objects in reduced availability.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

This issue is caused due to cache disk failure on the ESXi host. 

 

• /var/run/vmkernel.log shows disk in unhealthy state.

Resolution

Engage hardware vendor to further investigate and replace the disk.

Retry with VM hard disk expansion once hardware issues are fixed and when all objects are back healthy.
