VMware Identity Manager sends email notifications for various events.

To ensure these notifications are received, it is important to configure the SMTP server settings in VMware Identity Manager. This article provides step-by-step instructions for setting up the SMTP server and customizing the sender's email address for notifications.

Step 1: Log in to VMware Identity Manager Console

  • Log in to the VMware Identity Manager console with administrator privileges.

Step 2: Navigate to Appliance Settings

  • In the VMware Identity Manager console, click the Appliance Settings tab.

  • Then click on SMTP to access the SMTP server configuration settings.

Step 3: Configure SMTP Server Settings

  • Enter the SMTP server host name in the appropriate field. For example:
    smtp.example.com

  • Enter the SMTP server port number. Commonly used port numbers are:

    • 25 (default for unencrypted)

    • 465 or 587 (for encrypted connections)

  • Optional: Configure SMTP Authentication
    If the SMTP server requires authentication, enter the user name and password for authentication.

Step 4: Save SMTP Settings

  • After filling out the necessary information, click Save to apply the settings.

Step 5: Customize Sender's Email Address

  • If you want to customize the sender's address (from the default [email protected]), follow the steps below.

Step 6: Modify runtime-config.properties File

  • Log in to the VMware Identity Manager machine via SSH or console access.

  • Navigate to the following directory:
    /usr/local/horizon/conf/

  • Open the runtime-config.properties file using a text editor (e.g., vi or nano).

  • Add the following property to the file, specifying the email address you wish to use as the sender:

     
    notification.emails.support=emailaddress

  • After editing the file, save the changes and exit the text editor.

Step 8: Restart the VMware Identity Manager Service

  • To apply the changes, restart the VMware Identity Manager service by running the following command:
