Issue/Introduction

The Skyline health check flags an unsupported driver or firmware for a disk or storage controller in use for vSAN.

A storage device, e.g. a HBA, can be certified for use with ESX for other storage types, but the same combination of driver and firmware may not be certified for use with vSAN.

Environment

vSAN 8.x, 9.x

Cause

There is a separate Compatibility Guide for devices in use for vSAN, with different qualifying requirements than for other storage.

IO Devices:

Compatibility Guide

vSAN Compatibility Guide

- Devices may be on both of the above, but can have different drivers or firmware certified for vSAN.

Disks:

vSAN SSD

vSAN HDD

Resolution

Ensure that disks and storage controllers used for vSAN are fully supported as per the vSAN Compatibility Guide.
