Issue/Introduction

  • When a vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) Image Compliance check is run on a Cluster, the task fails with the error "Host not compatible with the image."
  • Clicking on the red information icon under the image version reveals the message: "Replace the ESXi version in the image with one of the same or higher version."

Environment

  • VMware vSphere ESXi
  • VMware vCenter Server

Cause

This issue occurs when the ESXi version specified in the vLCM image is lower or older compared to the version already installed on the host.

Resolution

To resolve this error, update the Cluster image to match the host's current image version:

  • Log in to the vSphere Client.
  • Navigate to the affected Cluster object.
  • Select the Updates tab, then select Hosts > Image.
  • Click Edit to modify the image definition.
  • Change the ESXi version or the "Vendor Add-on" to match the version that is already installed on your hosts.
    • Note: If the required version does not appear, you may need to import the corresponding Offline Bundle (.zip) into Lifecycle Manager > Image Depot.
  • Click Save and select Check Compliance to verify the fix.
