Issue/Introduction

Users may encounter an issue where reports generated for recently added objects such as vSphere clusters, hosts, or virtual machines , appear blank or contain no data. While reports for older, established objects in the environment function as expected, the "vSphere Cluster Utilization Summary" or similar views may fail to populate for the newly integrated resources.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18

Cause

The primary cause of blank reports for new objects is an incorrectly configured Time Setting within the underlying View or Report template.

If a report is set to a Fixed Date Range (e.g., a specific three-month window in the past), it will only display data collected during that exact interval. Since a newly created object did not exist in the environment during that historical timeframe, Aria Operations has no metric data to display for that specific object, resulting in an empty report.

Resolution

To resolve this, the View must be updated to include a time range that covers the lifespan of the new object. Follow these steps to adjust the configuration:

  1. Locate the View: Navigate to Visualize > Views in the Aria Operations UI.

  2. Search & Edit: Search for the specific view name used in your report (e.g., vSphere Cluster Utilization Summary). Hover over the view and click Edit.

  3. Adjust Time Settings: * Go to the Time Settings tab.

    • Change the Relative Date Range from a fixed period to a dynamic period, such as "Last 7 Days" or "Last 30 Days."

    • Alternatively, if using Advanced settings, ensure the "Start Date" and "End Date" encompass the current date.

  4. Save changes: Click Save to update the view template.

  5. Verify: Re-run the report for the new cluster. The data should now populate correctly.
