Issue/Introduction

  • Commissioning new host within SDDC manager fails with error "Unable to verify vSAN HCL"
  • Within operationsmanager.log  you see a similar error:
DEBUG [vcf_om,#,#] [c.v.e.s.c.c.v.vsan.VsanManagerBase,om-exec-20] HCL check failed for test vSAN HCL DB up-to-date due to yellow status on host hostname.example.com
  • lcm-debug.log shows an offline depot is in use:
DEBUG [vcf_lcm,#,#] [c.v.e.s.l.b.d.depot.DepotDownloader,http-nio-127.0.0.1-7400-exec-8] Downloading sourceFilePath /metadata/productVersionCatalog/v1/productVersionCatalog.json from host 10.#.#.# port 80 and user root and isOfflineDepot true

Environment

  • VCF 9.0.x
  • SDDC Manager 9.0.x

Cause

The vSAN HCL must be no older than 90 days.  If the offline depot is not refreshed (or if SDDC has not been able to reach the vSAN HCL for over 90 days), the data is considered expired and fails the HCL check.

Resolution

Update the offline depot with the newest version of the HCL.

Download the VSAN HCL here: https://vvs.broadcom.com/service/vsan/all.json  and update offline depot with the latest json file.

If not using an offline depot, verify the internet connection to the URL above is not blocked from SDDC.
