Self Reorganizing

Switching to the Datacom/AD database saves the downtime needed for FDS reorganizations as the new process is typically ‘self-reorganizing’.
If reorganization is necessary, it can be done in real time; the database would not require outage for maintenance.

The "self-reorganizing" refers to the ability to perform online REORG (OLREORG).
With OLREORG, you can reorganize the Datacom Files Data Base without having to take it offline.

Additional Information

When the physical sequence of records in an area are causing a performance problem, a database reorganization is usually scheduled. In the past, this would require the table being rendered unavailable while backups and reloads of the data in Native Key sequence are performed.
