Unable to apply NSX vDefend Firewall license on VCF 9.0

Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to apply license keys for:
    • VMware vDefend Firewall with Advanced Threat Prevention
    • VMware vDefend Gateway Firewall with Advanced Threat Prevention
    • VMware vDefend Distributed Firewall with Advanced Threat Prevention

  • When attempting to apply vDefend license key in NSX 9.0 UI, the following message appears:

    Code 3045 This license key is not supported in NSX

  • NSX Manager -  /var/log/syslog and /var/log/photon/nsxapi.log shows:

    License NSX Distributed Firewall with Advanced Threat Prevention with capacityType core expiring at 0 is not supported in VCF 9.0

    License NSX Gateway Firewall with Advanced Thread Prevention - VM with capacityType core expiring at 0 is not supported in VCF 9.0

    License VMware Firewall with Advanced Thread Prevention with capacityType core expiring at 0 is not supported in VCF 9.0

Environment

  • VCF 9.0.0
  • VCF 9.0.1

Cause

The current code does not allow for non-expiring keys to be entered.

Resolution

This is fixed in VCF 9.0.2 where NSX Manager will accept vDefend keys with no expiration dates.
