Issue/Introduction

Same task information can be seen on both "Tasks" and "Events" in vSphere UI.

What's the difference between the information at "Tasks" and "Events" ?

VMware vCenter Server (any version)

Resolution

• Task information can be seen in both "Tasks" and "Events" in vSphere UI -> Any object (vCenter, Datacenter, Cluster, Host, Virtual Machine, ...) -> Monitor -> Tasks and Events but the task information at each place is slightly different.

• "Status", "Start Time", "Completion Time", "Execution Time" are only seen at "Tasks".
  
  
• Task information in "Evetns" only indicates that "the task was created at that time" and no further information about it's details.
  
  
• Task information may provide a relating (multiple) event(s) information if exists.
