Issue/Introduction

The ESXI host is in a disconnected state, and all the virtual machines running on it are disconnected.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

The ESXi host management network is unreachable, and the host is displayed as disconnected in vCenter Server. Restarting hostd and vpxa via SSH does not resolve the issue.

Resolution

Restarted the host management agent from the DCUI (Direct Console User Interface:

1. Connect to the ILO and access the DCUI
2. Press F2 and enter the username and password
3. Navigate to the system Customization menu and choose troubleshooting options
4. Select Restart management agents
5. Log in to the vcenter server to reconnect the ESXi host.
