Issue/Introduction

This article explains the purpose, behavior, and requirements of the Partial Maintenance Mode state introduced in VMware vSphere 8.0 Update 3.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0.U3 and later.

Resolution

Partial maintenance mode is an automatic state that each host will enter when performing a Live Patch remediation task. This special state allows existing VMs to continue to run but disallows the creation of new VMs on the host or for VMs to be migrated to or from the host.

Note : Partial Maintenance mode is a new feature of ESXi 8.0 U3.
