Can the RADIUS shared secret in Symantec VIP Enterprise Gateway be viewed or retrieved once it has been set?

Why the RADIUS shared secret cannot be retrieved

  • For security reasons, VIP does not store the RADIUS shared secret in a readable form.

  • Neither VIP Manager nor the Enterprise Gateway Admin Console provides a way to display or export an existing shared secret.

  • Broadcom Support and Engineering also cannot recover an existing secret.

This behavior is by design and aligns with standard security practices for RADIUS implementations.

Important notes

  • There is no API, CLI, or database query supported to extract RADIUS shared secrets.

  • Attempting to retrieve secrets directly from the file system or database is unsupported and not recommended.
