Issue/Introduction

This article explains the VCF Health – "vSAN site takeover health" check and provides details on why it might report error state.

Environment

VMware vSAN 9.1

Resolution

Q: What does the VCF Health - vSAN site takeover health check do?

This check validates any inconsistencies regarding takeover state for hosts in the vSAN cluster.

Q: What does it mean when it is in an error state and how to resolve this issue?

If this check reports RED (error) state, it means that the cluster has undergone site takeover already but inconsistent states have been detected in some hosts - this state may lead to IOs being blocked when accessing the recovered object(s).

This inconsistency in host state may be caused by either the state of a host from a failed site or a host that has taken a different site takeover previously.

A reboot is required for the impacted host(s) in order to be able to resume IOs on the objects which were recovered by the vSAN site takeover operation.
