Issue/Introduction

Symptoms

  • When attempting replication between two DR clusters, the following error appears in the replication mapping test section of the replication configuration wizard:
Connection error. Fix the error before configuring replication.
  • Connections succeed on all ports required for vSphere Replication.

  • The NTP service is not running on the ESXi host, and the ntpq command cannot verify the time synchronization status.
    ntpq -p
    /bin/ntpq: read: Connection refused
  • The following log is recorded in hbr-agent.log:
YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss.000Z In(166) hbr-agent-bin[000000]: [0x000000000000] error: [Proxy [Group: PING-GID-000000-0000-0000-0000-00000] -> [<ESXi IP address> :32032]] [000000-0000-0000-0000-00000] Failed to login to brokered server additional error info: Broker or host clocks may be out of sync

Environment

VMware vSphere Replication 9.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

The Enhanced replication mapping test is failing because time synchronization is not being performed on the ESXi host.
The NTP service on the ESXi host must be started.

Resolution

Start the NTP service on the ESXi host.

  1. In the vSphere Client home page, navigate to Home > Hosts and Clusters.
  2. Select a host.
  3. On the Configure tab, select System > Services.
  4. Change the status of the NTP service manually.
Select NTP Daemon, and click Start
