Issue/Introduction

Planning to upgrade HostBridge (HB.js) to version 8.0 from 6.7.8.
What are the changes between the 2 versions and the benefits of the new version 8.0

Environment

HostBridge (HB.js)

Resolution

The main reasons for release 8.0 documented under Release Notes > New Features were:

  • Enhance the software to support SMP/E and z/OSMF Portable Software Instance (PSWI) installations.

  • Add standard Broadcom (CA) LMP license key processing.

Other features:

  • Provide Thai and Arabic character set support.
  • Allow a list of user IDs to be specified that were to be used exclusively for HB.js processing (called 'Asserted ID processing') .
  • Code fixes

Another major change in 8.0 is that support for HBX scripts has been dropped and there is this HBX script conversion page here: Convert HBX Scripts

Additional Information

There are also a number of PTFs that were developed for HB.js after initial release of 8.0 and these included a number of cosmetic fixes and reorganization of files included in the install procedure plus a major fix to streamline certain recovery processes for HB.js running under the zIIP to improve performance.
A list of 8.0 PTFs is available on the Broadcom Support Portal: HB.js MSU MVS 8.0 Solutions
