Reported packet loss alerts occur on the VMware HCX Network Extension (NE) appliance.
While troubleshooting, the Host and NE appliance logs do not indicate explicit networking issues or packet loss.
HCX
Any packet loss exceeding 0.1% on the tunnel path triggers HCX uplink loss rate alerts.
This threshold is part of the minimum network underlay requirements for HCX installations.
Refer to techdocs for requirements. HCX Network underlay minimum requirements
Determine Root Cause of WAN Uplink Packet Loss
To resolve these alerts, identify and mitigate the source of loss in the physical or virtual network underlay:
Review Transport Analytics: Monitor the HCX Service Mesh to identify real-time performance metrics of the transport tunnel.
Verify Underlay Requirements: Ensure the network path meets the minimum requirement of less than 0.1% loss.
Engage Network Team: Investigate the Wide Area Network (WAN) path for intermittent congestion or hardware errors that do not appear in local appliance logs.
