How to test Symantec VIP SMS, Voice or email delivery

Issue/Introduction

Testing VIP security code delivery to SMS, Voice or Email.

Resolution

  • Log into your VIP Manager portal.
    • If the credential is assigned to a user: Find the user on the USERS tab, then click Edit Details.
    • If the credential is not assigned to a user: Find the credential on the CREDENTIALS tab, then click Edit Details.
  • To confirm deliverability, click the Check link once under the credential ID to immediately send a code to that credential.
  • To confirm functionality, enter the security sent to the credential ID. 
  • Wait 60 seconds before repeating this process.
  • If the code is not delivered, check the VIP status page. If there are no open incidents, refer to this article.

Note: If the SMS, voice, or email credential does not appear in your VIP Manager tenant, your organization may uses specific VIP Web APIs for direct delivery of a security code (for example: transaction confirmations). To perform a test in this scenario, create a test user under the USERS tab. Assign an SMS, voice, or email to the user using the exact value from your application, then test delivery using the above steps. When testing is complete, remove the credential from the test user and disable or delete the user.
