Issue/Introduction

  • Virtual machines are replicated using host-based replication (vSphere Replication).
  • When performing a storage migration (Storage vMotion) to another datastore, the following warning is displayed:
  • A general system error occurred: Warning: This virtual machine is protected by VMware Site Recovery Manager. Migrating the VM from a replicated and protected datastore 'Health-xxx-xxx' to a non-replicated datastore will cause the VM to become non-replicated and you will not be able to recover the VM using Site Recovery Manager in case of a disaster. Do not proceed unless you understand the potential data loss involved. Note: You can migrate the VM to a datastore that resides in the same consistency group as 'xxx-xxx' without any issue.

Environment

VMware Live Recovery 9.x

Cause

This warning is informational and is displayed by VMware Site Recovery Manager when a storage migration is initiated. This can be ignored if the VMs are replicated using host-based replication (vsphere replication)

Resolution

Proceed with the storage migration of the VM and there won't be any impact on the on-going replication. please refer the below document for more details.
