Issue/Introduction

When multiple SNMP devices share the same IP address across different Secure Domain Connector (SDC) zones, Virtual Network Assurance (VNA) reconciliation behavior depends on the integration mapping and discovery order.․․․․

ERROR MESSAGE: N/A

SYMPTOMS:

  • Potential for VNA data to consolidate with the incorrect SNMP device in Spectrum.

  • Uncertainty regarding which landscape or SDC member a VNA-discovered device will map to when IP overlaps exist.

  • Overlapping subnets in different SDCs causing reconciliation ambiguity.

CONTEXT: This occurs in environments using VNA integration where identical IP addresses are polled via different SDCs or the main SpectroServer (SS) landscape.

IMPACT: Low. Incorrect reconciliation can lead to fragmented or misaligned device modeling between SDN and SNMP management layers.

Environment

  • Product: DX NetOps Classic (Spectrum)
  • Version: 24.3.11

  • Integration: Virtual Network Assurance (VNA)

  • Architecture: Distributed SpectroServer (DSS) with Secure Domain Connectors (SDC)

Cause

Reconciliation is primarily IP-based. In overlapping IP environments (SDCs), the VNA plugin mapping provides the necessary context to distinguish between identical IPs in different zones.

Resolution

PREREQUISITES:

  • Access to the OneClick Console or VNA Configuration portal.

  • Active VNA integration with the Spectrum landscape.

STEPS:

  1. MAP VNA PLUGIN TO SPECIFIC LANDSCAPE/SDC: To ensure a VNA-discovered SDN router reconciles with the correct SNMP device, you must specify the SDC during plugin mapping.

    • To reconcile with a device on the main SpectroServer: Select SDC value as "none" during VNA plugin integration.

    • To reconcile with a device behind a specific SDC: Select the target SDC in the mapping configuration.

EXPECTED: VNA will prioritize reconciliation with the SNMP device associated with the selected SDC/Landscape mapping.

  2. UNDERSTAND SINGLE DOMAIN RECONCILIATION LIMITS: If two devices share the same IP address within the SAME VNA domain, the system cannot uniquely identify them via IP.

    • Only one of the devices will be reconciled.

    • The reconciliation result depends strictly on the order of inventory discovery.

EXPECTED: The first device discovered in the inventory sequence will take precedence for reconciliation.

VERIFY SUCCESS:

  • Open OneClick and locate the reconciled device.

  • Verify that the VNA/SDN information is associated with the correct model (SS-based or SDC-based).

  • Confirm the SDC/Landscape attribute on the device model matches your mapping intent.
