“Unknown USB Device (Invalid Device Descriptor)” while adding USB device to Windows VM on HPE Gen 11 server.

Issue/Introduction

Unable to add USB 2.0 device to Windows VM after moving to HPE Gen 11 and below error will be reported : 

“Unknown USB Device (Invalid Device Descriptor)” is seen inside the Windows VM.

Environment

VMware ESXi 7.x

VMware ESXi 8.x

Cause

USB 2.0 controller isn’t supported in HPE G11 servers.

Resolution

HPE GEN11 supports only USB 3.0 ports.
Use USB 3.0 in respective VM settings.
