vCenter alarm triggered with a blank or empty name

Issue/Introduction

In vCenter, an alarm with an empty name is triggered as shown below:

Once the alarm is selected and reset to green, it recurs within an hour.

The following log entry is observed in the "journalctl -b 0" output when the alarm is triggered:

[vim.event.AlarmStatusChangedEvent] [info] [] [] [#######] [Alarm '' on Datacenters changed from Green to Yellow]

 

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

Resolution

Restart the vCenter and reset the alarm to green.

Additional Information

After upgrading to vCenter Server 8.x, some alarm definitions are displayed with empty alarm names
