VMware vSphere Foundation

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to deploy a VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) environment using the VCF Installer, the deployment fails during the pre-check phase if the ESX management network speed is less than 10 Gbps.
The following error is displayed:

"The speed of vmnic# on host <hostname> is 1000 MB/s but must be at least 10 GB/s according to minimum hardware requirements."

Environment

VMware vSphere Foundation 9.0
VCF Operations 9.0

Cause

The VCF Installer requires a minimum management network speed of 10 Gbps for all deployments, regardless of whether it is for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) or VVF.

Resolution

For VVF deployments where a 10 Gbps NIC is unavailable, you can manually deploy VCF Operations using the OVA file and then register the vCenter to complete the environment setup.

Important:

  • This manual deployment method is only supported for vSphere Foundation (VVF) environments. It is not supported for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) deployments.
  • Using 10 Gbps NICs for the management network is best practice, especially for vSAN. If you choose to use a lower speed, please ensure sufficient verification is performed before production use.
