VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Issue/Introduction

Setting / Creating vCenter alarms for vpxd and other vCenter services fail to trigger when services are stopped.

Environment

vCenter 8.x

Cause

The vSphere Alarm feature is not intended to monitor the service health of the vCenter node. This is because the services responsible for triggering alarm conditions operate within the vCenter itself. These alarms are intended to report conditions of the nodes within the vSphere environment, the ESXi Hosts, the VMs.

Resolution

To monitor the services of the vCenter VM.

  • Consider adding Aria Operations to the environment
  • Consider upgrading the environment to VCF 9.x
