Issue/Introduction

  • Licenses do not appear on the System > Settings > Licenses page in the NSX Manager UI, even after clicking REFRESH.

  • The following logs are observed in the NSX Manager log file /var/log/proton/nsxapi.log:
    <Timestamp>  WARN pool-548-thread-1 VCSyncServiceImpl <PID> SYSTEM [nsx@4413 comp="nsx-manager" level="WARNING" subcomp="manager"] Failed to get the valid license info from (vim.LicenseInfo) {

       dynamicProperty = null,
       licenseKey = <licenseKey>,
       editionKey = vc.vvf.entitlement.cpuCoreMin,
       name = VMware vSphere Foundation (cores),
       total = 0,
       used = null,
       costUnit = ,
       properties = (vmodl.KeyAnyValue) [

             dynamicProperty = null,
             key = cloudSubscription,
             value = 1
          },

             dynamicProperty = null,
             key = signedEntitlement,
             value =<value>
    <Timestamp>  INFO pool-548-thread-1 VCSyncServiceImpl <PID> SYSTEM [nsx@4413 comp="nsx-manager" level="INFO" subcomp="manager"] No valid VCF license found for the VC <CM_UUID>

Environment

NSX 9.0

Cause

This issue occurs because a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) license has not been applied to the vCenter Server registered with the NSX Manager. In the example shown above, a VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) license is applied instead, which is not valid.

Resolution

Apply the VCF Solution license to the vCenter Server. Once applied, the license will be automatically applied to NSX.
