VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

Network Map shows alert "The total number of entities (groups, devices, links, etc.) has exceeded the supported limit.

The supported limit value is 100,000.

In the VCF Operations for Networks display, under the "Network Map" --> Scope --> All entities, you see "##### / ##### Entities", where "#####" is a number that is less than 100,000, which seems confusing.

NOTE:  VCF Operations for Networks was formerly named Aria Operations for Networks (AON), and prior to that was named vRealize Network Insight (vRNI).

Environment

VCF Operations for Networks

Cause

The number "#####" shown in the GUI is only devices, and does not include groups and links.

Example log events that confirm the amount by which the total exceeds 100,000 look like this:

####-##-##T##:##:##.353Z INFO programs.veriflow.SnapshotManagerService Source: SDMProcessSRC -> GenSDM -> Filter -> MetStoreMap -> (Sink: RAW_METRIC_SINK, Sink: FlinkKafkaProducer, async wait operator -> Timestamps/Watermarks -> Flat Map, Filter -> Map) (23/42)_0 checkEntityLimits:685 The true entity count is ######, which includes virtual devices that may get removed later.

In the above event:

  • ####-##-##T##:##:## represents the time stamp of the event in YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS format

  • ###### represents the true total number of entities including devices, groups and links

Resolution

To avoid these symptoms, create smaller Network Map scopes, following the documentation at Working with Network Map --> Network Map Scope
