Issue/Introduction

  • A virtual machine was migrated to a remote site using HCX.
  • During the virtual machine migration, an event with the message "Cannot login USERNAME_PLACEHOLDER@##.##.##.##" appears in the vSphere Client.
  • The IP address shown after the "@" symbol corresponds to the IP address of the HCX Manager.

Environment

VMware HCX

Cause

This event is generated by design behavior in which the HCX Manager attempts to log in using dummy credentials to verify the IP address of the ESXi host.

This does not indicate an actual failure or a problem with the migration.

Resolution

This event can be safely ignored.
